Parent Connection Activities: Week of Aug. 29, 2010

Bible Teaching For Kids: Babies-Twos

The Big Idea: Asking God to help others shows love.

The Bible Story: “Peter’s Friends” (Acts 12:1-17)

Connecting Points this week:

  • This week pray in various places: outdoors, at the dinner table, in the bed, while driving. Lead your child to understand that he can talk to God anywhere.
  • Encourage your child to say: “Thank You, God.”
  • Comment that Peter’s friends asked God for help and your family can ask God to help others, too.

Bible Teaching For Kids: Threes-Kindergarten

The Big Idea: People show love by praying for others.

The Bible Story: “People Prayed for Peter” (Acts 12:1-17)

Connecting Points this week:

  • Encourage your child to make a list of people for whom she can pray. She could draw pictures or print names. Print today’s Bible verse on paper and clip all the names/pictures to the verse to make a prayer list book.
  • Guide your child to pray for one or two people in the book each day. Say the verse after you pray.
  • Remind your child that praying for others is a way to show love.

Bible Teaching For Kids: 1st-5th Grade

The Big Idea: Tell Your Story

The Bible Story: Paul Talks to a King (Acts 26)

Connecting Points this week:

  • Begin by sharing your personal testimony of salvation with your family.
  • Let other family members share their personal testimonies as well.
  • Encourage your family members to think of someone whom they know that may not be a Christian and to share their personal testimony with that person this week.
  • Remind kids that a personal testimony is just a telling of God has done for you personally. No one can argue with a personal testimony as it is what happened to you.

Parent Connection Activities: Week of Aug. 22, 2010

Bible Teaching For Kids: Babies-Twos

The Big Idea: Working together shows love.

The Bible Story: “Paul Worked with His Friends” (Acts 18:1-4,18-28)

Connecting Points this week:

  • Working together is a skill that younger preschoolers are just beginning to develop. As you work together to pick up toys, comment that working together shows love.
  • Say the Bible phrase “Work together to help others” when you see family members working together.

Bible Teaching For Kids: Threes-Kindergarten

The Big Idea: People show love by working together.

The Bible Story: “Aquila and Priscilla Worked with Paul” (Acts 18:1-4,18-28)

Connecting Points this week:

  • Print the Bible verse “Work together happily” on a large index card, paper plate, or heavy paper. Punch holes around the words. Your child can lace ribbon, yarn, or shoelaces in and out of the holes.
  • As your child “sews,” recall the Bible story and talk about how the people worked together. Hang the completed verse reminder in your child’s room.
  • Think of a task that your family could all do together: wash the car, clean the yard, etc. After the task is complete, thank God that your family can show love by working together.

Bible Teaching For Kids: 1st-5th Grade

The Big Idea: Tell When It’s Tough

The Bible Story: Paul Preached to an Angry Crowd (Acts 21:27-22:29)

Connecting Points this week:

  • Invite family members to tell times they think it may be tough to tell others about Jesus.
  • Have children mention facts they know about God. Make a list of those facts.
  • Encourage your children to know that even during difficult situations they can still tell others things they know. Refer back to the list.
  • Read Philippians 4:13 from your Bible and remind children that God will give them the strength to tell others about Him even when it’s tough.

Bible Teaching For Kids: 1st-5th Grade

The Big Idea: Tell By Your Actions

The Bible Story: Paul and Silas in Prison (Acts 16:16-34)

Connecting Points this week:

  • Begin your time by playing a simple game of charades.
  • Talk about how you were able to figure out what someone was trying to say simply by following their actions.
  • Have each person name an action that may not show others that he is a Christian. (Examples may be, arguing, cheating, stealing, etc.)
  • Pray that God will give your family members the ability to always show that you are Christians through your actions.

The Bible Story: Barnabas and Paul (Acts 14)

Connecting Points this week:

  • This week make a list of all the places your family may visit during a typical week.
  • Consult your church website or bulletin and find a list of missionaries for whom your church prays and supports in other ways. Pray for each of them individually.
  • Challenge your children to think of ways they can tell others about Jesus in some of the places you listed earlier.
  • Choose one of the places from your list and pray that God would give you the opportunity at that place to tell someone about Jesus this week.
