2012 is here and our January theme for kids is SELF-CONTROL. With that parents, we say, “You’re welcome.”
We’re excited about seeing kids embrace this all-important spiritual fruit in their lives. We can manage our kids all we want but unless we teach them to edit and monitor their own choices and behaviors, they can’t possibly succeed in life. Ultimately, the boundaries we set and enforce must equip them to set and live by their own personal limits. Fortunately, we have the Holy Spirit in our lives to birth and maintain the fruit of self-control.
Check out this Game On about our curriculum this month to better understand what your kids will be learning.
And don’t forget to check out our January Playlist. Enjoy the music we praise God with on Sundays all week long and watch you and your kids draw even closer to God.

Check-in continues to run really smoothly on Sunday morning. It’s check-out that seems to take longer and longer every week. That’s because we continue to have more kids and that is exciting. In order to improve, we’re making a change to check-out that will accomplish 3 really big goals in our kids ministry. Here’s the change and the list of added perks:
Starting Sunday January 1st, check-out will take place in EACH INDIVIDUAL GRADE! Elementary kids will continue to check-in at the computer kiosks and in the main entrance to the Backyard fence. When it comes time to check-out, you should report directly to your child’s grade area. There will be an opening in the fence near their small group. You can present your security tag and sign them out with their teachers.
Here are the perks:
- This gives parents and small group leaders face-time each week. It’s important that they get to know who you are and that you have a chance to meet and know the super important people who disciple your child each week.
- This will cut down on the LONG, MAIN, CHECK-OUT LINE we’ve been experiencing each week.
- This new system will train us for what check-out will be like when we move to the newly constructed kids area later in 2012.
Now, there are some important reminders. Parents, you must present your security tag to check-out your child. If you lose it, a new one can be made at our Kids Ministry Guest Desk. If you have multiple kids to check out from various grades, you can go and get them one at a time, or split that duty with your spouse. Our security tags come 2 to a label. There is a line down the middle for simple tearing. Feel free to tear your tag in half so you each have a copy and can check out your kids from the Backyard. If you have questions, email Nic. Have a Merry Christmas. We’ll see you New Year’s Day in the Backyard as we teach kids about the important fruit of the spirit, self-control and as we tackle a new system of check-out security in the Backyard!

December in 252 kids world is all about generosity. Our Dec. 18th lesson looked at the magi, wise men from the east who visited young Jesus to bring Him gifts. Those gifts signified that Jesus was a king who would be our high priest and ultimately die a sacrificial death. The gifts they brought are not unlike the gifts of worship we bring, offering worth to Jesus.

December in 252 kids world is all about generosity. Our Dec. 11th lesson examined the manner in which Jesus came…as a baby in a manger. The best gift we could ever be given came in the most unlikely way. The best gift our kids could get this Christmas is a better understanding of who Jesus is and why He came.

December is here and this month, kids are learning about generosity. We’re teaching that generosity means making someone’s day by giving something away. Our Dec. 4th lesson was a look at Luke 12 and the parable Jesus told about a rich man. He was so rich, he didn’t have room to store his grain. Rather than giving it away, he just built a bigger barn to store it. We’re all guilty to a degree of amassing more stuff while others go without. This month, let’s help our kids really learn that it is truly more blessed to give than to receive.
